In Côte d'Ivoire, the cocoa sales system has been reformed for almost a decade. This marketing scheme allows the country to sell each year before the start of a new season, a certain proportion of the coming harvest.
In Ivory Coast, the farm gate price for cocoa sales could fall during the main 2021/2022 season due to start next October. According to sources close to the Café-Cacao Council (CCC), the kilogram of beans is indeed expected between 825 and 850 Fcfa against 1,000 Fcfa a year earlier at the same period.
This level would mark a return to the price range applied over the last three seasons (2017/2018, 2018/2019 and 2019/2020). “The average selling price of cocoa was not extraordinary due to the declining Subsistence Income Differential (DRD). Even if the DRD is 220 Fcfa / kg, we can guarantee a price in the range of 825 to 850 Fcfa. We will have a lower price than Ghana, but the most important thing for us is to set a price that will be respected by all, "said some CCC officials who requested anonymity.
In the country, observers estimate in particular that the tariff of 1,000 CFA francs / kg set in 2020/2021 had not been followed in the regions due to the drop in demand in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
As of August 31, the CCC advance sales of 1.46 million tonnes of cocoa for the 2021/2022 main season. Ivory Coast is expected to harvest 2 million tonnes of cocoa this season.
